Movie musicals are a tried and true genre in filmmaking, one that can win major categories during awards season. Arguably the most anticipated new project(s) of its kind is the Bad movies, directed Crazy rich Asians cinematographer Jon M. Chu. Given how beloved and long-running the Broadway musical is, the pressure is on for the film adaptation to live up to the hype. But there’s some A+ talent involved, starring Cynthia Erivo and the pop star Ariana Grande. The latter plays Glinda, a role that originated on the great white road Kristin Chenoweth. And OG Glinda recently explained why she’s “delighted” Grande has been cast in the upcoming film adaptations.
The hype for Chu’s upcoming movie musical has been building steadily ever since the leading lady pairing was announced. Although the cast his Bad they’re pretty stacked, they’ve got some big shoes to fill when it comes to Broadway’s original company. While Idina Menzel admitted that she is upset Kristin Chenoweth has another perspective on not being able to play Elphaba again. Chenoweth shared why Grande is the right choiceand spoke GMA about her feelings about the film, saying:

Later in the same interview with GMAThe Joy The actress spoke more about her relationship with Grande and their role together, saying:

There are already many rumors about her performance, including that she was lip syncing to Chenoweth’s vocals.
