Longlegs director Osgood Perkins says Nicolas Cage is unrecognizable in the upcoming horror thriller – and we’re ready for non-stop nightmares.
“We extracted the character’s voice, the character’s look, the attitude. What references is Nic going to use in terms of the people in his life or other actors? He’s very biased that he pulls a lot from others. Another person will do?” Osgood Perkins tells SFX magazine in the new issue, which features The Boys season 4 on the cover. He doesn’t sound like himself, he doesn’t walk like himself. So you have this element, like wind or fire, but your character is Nicolas Cage.”
From what we’ve seen so far in the disturbing trailers and cryptic marketing… we agree. Cage’s killer appears on camera for a moment in the newest trailer, and a distorted sound is heard the second he raises his arms above his head. We later hear him speak directly to Maika Monroe’s Lee Harker, but not before we see him lingering inside Lee’s house.
The film follows Lee, a talented young FBI agent assigned to an unsolved serial killer case. As the investigation becomes more complex and cryptic evidence is revealed, Lee realizes a personal connection to the ruthless killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder. The cast includes Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood, Lisa Chandler, Erin Boyes, Dakota Daulby and Vanessa Walsh.
“Well, it’s Silence Of The Lambs, but it’s also kind of a Zodiac, it’s kind of a seven. There’s a kind of pattern, a cipher, the kind of things you recognize,” Perkins says of the film, providing some context for mysterious (and cleverly) marketed film. “I’m going to say the word Manson early in the movie, you know what I mean? You do it justice. But then you do your truth on the other side.”
