Variety caught up recently Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and they wasted no time asking the actors if they’ll be fitting next in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers movie theater.
Rumors continue to swirl that Jackman plans to stick around for the duration of the Multiverse Saga, though we’ve heard very little about where the Merc with the Mouth might fit into those plans.
Reynolds was the first to respond, saying: “I don’t know. Yeah, we’ll see. Yeah.” Disappointingly, Jackman was so accommodating as he simply replied, “Obviously, this is our first big interview of this press tour. I’m not sure how to answer.”
Stepping away from a team with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Reynolds was asked if he thinks he’ll continue playing Deadpool after this threequel. The actor was first cast as Wade Wilson in 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine and later got a chance to play a comedy version in 2016 Deadpool. So, it was quite a long time!
“I do not know,” the actor admitted. “I could see any version of him. I can imagine a solo film, being part of an ensemble. I can imagine this being the last time. I never feel anything other than that.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Jackman was asked about whether he’ll be stepping into Logan’s iconic yellow and blue suit.
“We had a few rounds. When we first started in 1999, everyone was in black leather.” he remembers. “Part of my brain was institutionalized that it is. Then gradually watching the Marvel movies, I’m like, ‘That looks really cool.’ Once I put it on, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t done it before.”
Reynolds adds, “I’ve never seen a crew reaction like this. We were almost talking about the suit at the beginning of development because it was out of place. You can’t do that character now unless he’s in the suit.”
The duo also had a fun exchange about whether the film should have a title Deadpool & Wolverine the Wolverine & Deadpool:
Reynolds: Yeah, is it “Deadpool 3” or “Wolverine 10”? Certainly seniority, I mean, he’s 34 years older, so you want to take care of your elders.
Jackman: I do not care. [To Levy] That was sweet of you to call it ‘Wolverine & Deadpool’. I thought that was generous.
Reynolds: [To Jackman] It’s actually called ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. I’m so sorry.
Jackman: Wolverine obviously cares, because he would never be in a movie where it wasn’t called “Wolverine & Deadpool.”
Wolverine & Deadpool Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters July 26.
