After six decades in business, Michael Caine has earned his pension. Appearance on BBC radio Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review program, said the actor that his current movie Best Sellers is probably his last.
The mid-budget comedy-drama, in which he stars as a frantic, isolated writer banging his head with a modern publisher impersonating Aubrey Plaza“It turned out to be my last place really,” he said. The two-time winner of the Oscar II for Best Actor (for Hannah and her sisters and The rules of Cider House) “I have not worked for two years and I have a problem in my spine that affects my legs and so I can not walk very well.”
Although he has another job shot before Best Sellers not yet released, including the Czech historical action picture Medieval, repeated to the interviewer Simon Mayo that “he thinks[s Best Sellers] would be his last film. He added, “there have been no honest offers in the last two years, because no one makes films that I would like to make.”
The actor, who has entertained the movie audience since Alfi to Zulu, he added “you know I’m 88. Scenarios are not exactly spilled with a leader who is 88, you know?”
Kane, who has published a number of successful books on Hollywood and the acting arts, recently turned his attention to fiction. During the pandemic he wrote a thriller entitled If you do not want to die, which is being prepared for publication. “My professional – my life was with 150 people all day every day. So I’m sitting now doing something on my own. “And I think that’s the point,” he said he told NPR for the life of the author, while he cunningly quotes a phrase that is forever associated with him as a young man.
But then comes the overthrow! Shortly after this story was told, Kane’s representatives he told The Wrap that syntax can be a very powerful word. The commercial newspaper wrote that they had confirmed that Kane “is not fully retired”. (VF contact for further clarification.)
Someone suspects that, with Christopher Nolan preparation a biographical film in J. Robert Oppenheimer, there may be room for at least one quick appearance of Caine. The two have worked together on nine previous projects. (Who else but Michael Caine could sell a series like Interstellar“Will I have solved the problem of gravity”;)
