Jamie Foxx is currently promoting his upcoming action/comedy/vampire movie on Netflix, Day shiftalongside Dave Franco. ComicBook.com had a chance to speak with the two stars about the new film and the conversation turned Spawn terrain. There’s been a movie in the works for some time that’s going to be based on Todd McFarlane’s Image Comics character Spawn, but not much is known about the project other than Foxx’s involvement. While he was talking to ComicBook.comFox called it Spawn movie “special” and teased what fans can expect from his costume.
“I’ve seen a lot of concepts,” Foxx revealed when asked if a costume has been created. “Because Todd, what he does, every day he climbs and builds and does some things that, to me, I think will be like a way out when you see it. And how he makes that cape and how that cape becomes almost — I’ll say this — as big as the screen you’re watching.”
ComicBook.com also had a chance to chat with McFarlane at San Diego Comic-Con last month and revealed that he “had that conversation” about the development Spawn as a streaming series instead of a movie.
“The answer is you should probably think about it. What if one of the big networks comes out and raises a bunch of cash and says they want to make it a streaming movie?” MacFarlane said. “My only hesitation about this kind of deal right now is that there is no data that I can think of that anyone has been able to create a [movie] franchise that starts as streaming [series].” He continued, “[Franchises] You start in theaters, then you can do spin-offs, then you can go to a series that comes out of it.”
MacFarlane also revealed that he was discussing the live-action announcement Spawn news at San Diego Comic-Con or wait until New York Comic Con later this year, closer to the release of the new one Batman/Spawn crossover comic just announced.
“We had a long discussion about whether to make an announcement [at San Diego Comic-Con] … I just thought it might be a little early, because I’m trying to make another one, two big announcements right as we go to Hollywood to sell,” he explained. Spawn it’s going to be a bit of a climax … there’s going to be some buzzing stuff, and I thought, ‘[San Diego] it may be too early.”
