Starring Kangana Ranaut Urgent will see her as Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Anupam Kher will be seen as the revolutionary leader JP Narayan, Shreyas Talpade is essaying the role of late politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now the makers have revealed that Mahima Chaudhry will be seen playing the role of writer Pupul Jayakar.

Talking about this character, Kangana Ranaut says, “Pupul Jayakar was a writer, a very close friend of Mrs Gandhi and has also written her autobiography. Mrs. Gandhi confided everything to her. If there is a thread that runs through the film and connects the audience with the inner world of Mrs. Gandhi, it is Pupul Jayakar’s character. Although the film is a first-person story, it is not a film where someone is the narrator. Mrs. Gandhi’s interactions with Popul are the most psychological. They shed light on how she confided her darkest secrets to Pupul Jayakar. This makes her character an important person in the film called Urgent.”
Mahima Chaudhry, who plays Pupul Jayakar, adds, “Working with Kangana is an experience because she wears so many hats with such ease. She plays such an important political character Mrs. Indira Gandhi. She directs and produces it herself. He does it with such ease, he is so confident and it gives me great confidence. I get a lot of strength from looking at her and the way she works. I am very proud to work with her. They are extremely talented. Pupul Jayakar was the childhood friend of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, so my scenes are those where you get to see the non-political side of this great statesman and controversial political leader during the Emergency period. He is very honest with Pupul and so is Pupul. They are very open and honest with each other. You see a very different side of Mrs Gandhi. It’s very interesting to play this character and it was a great experience to work on it.”
Manikarnika Films presents Urgent written and directed by Kangana Ranaut. The film is produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana Ranaut. Screenplay and dialogues are by Ritesh Shah.
