James Cameron’s Avatar The Way of Water has beat Bollywood blockbusters in 2022 and has already collected Rs 20.75 crore on the second Saturday, taking its total collections to Rs 223 crore. The film saw a 50 percent jump and beat new releases including Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus and Telugu film Dhamaka. The second weekend numbers are the highest for a Hollywood film and are more than Avengers: Endgame.

Way of Water crossed the 200 crore mark on the second Friday and has also collected money from the Christmas holidays. The dubbed version of the film is also performing well in small centres. As far as south India is concerned, Tamil Nadu saw the best growth in collections with an 80 percent increase and Monday’s number is expected to cross Rs 250 crore. The film is expected to run non-stop till the Sankranthi holidays, before many big south films are released. It is expected to become Hollywood’s third highest grosser in the third week of January and cross the Rs 400 crore mark, but it all depends on how the film fares after the festive season.

Avatar 2 became Hollywood’s second biggest opener in India after raking in Rs 41 crore on its first day of release. Avengers: Endgame, which collected 53 crore on its opening day, remains Hollywood’s top release. Worldwide, Avatar: The Way of Water has earned over $600 million.

Avatar: The Way of Water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet. Sam and Zoe reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri. The first Avatar, released in 2009, was the biggest film in history, bringing in $2.9 billion at the global box office.
