Dave Bautista is widely regarded as one of the best actors to make the leap from the world of wrestling. While most – they like it Dwayne Johnson and John Cena – have mostly stuck to comedies and action films, Bautista has shown that he could be a great dramatic actor. In his work with Denis Villeneuve, especially, Bautista has a chance to show his range. He is still better known as Drax in the MCUof course, but hopes to move beyond gray make up soon.
In addition to working with respected directors and actors such as the Bond films Specter, Blade Runner 2049, Hotel Artemis, Army of the Dead, Dune and Glass onion – Bautista also has M. Night Shyamalan’s A bump in the cabin is coming as well Dune Part Two of course.
Speaking about Villeneuve, Bautista says; “If I could be number one [on the callsheet] with Denis, I would do it for free. I think that way I could find out how good I could be. It gets the best of me. He sees me in a different light, he sees the performer I want to be. Maybe that’s how I’ll solve the puzzle.”
As for Drax, Bautista has mixed feelings. “I’m so thankful for Drax. I love him. But there is a relief [that it’s over]. Not everything was pleasant. It was difficult to play this role. The makeup process hit me. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy—it’s a silly show and I want to do more dramatic things.”
It sounds like Bautista is ready to move on from the MCU, too Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be the last we see of Drax. The trailer certainly made it seem like it was going to be an emotional finale for all the main characters. But we’ll have to wait until May to find out.
