Netflix is known for releasing movies without much marketing and just seeing how they connect with the audience. It looks like the latest Danish original A Beautiful Life is no different, but luckily for the streamer, it is started to climb the charts.
The film follows a young fisherman named Elliot who happens to have a great voice. When a well-known music manager discovers him, she pairs him with her divorced daughter to make a record. Elliot must navigate this new relationship as well as his previous endeavors to make the most of what will inevitably be the opportunity of a lifetime.
The film is currently number one in several countries including Canada, Australia, Germany and Italy. But it’s the audience reviews that really got us interested. A Beautiful Life currently holds an average rating of 90%, based on over 50 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
“What’s not to like? Since there are so many negative, angry, violent movies about broken people and broken humanity.” wrote one“I was happy to watch something different for a change, a positive great movie.”
Another argued: “Check this out. I want to give this five stars, but I just can’t. This is an under-the-radar heartbreaker and a well-produced story, but this is also the EXACT inverse of countless Netflix series that are eight episodes. which clearly only needed three. My disappointment is that THIS story felt almost ridiculously rushed, and I guess it had too little of a budget to achieve its goals.”
While a third concluded: “I’m not a fan of romantic movies, but this one was different. Raw, relatable and refreshing. It made me feel it… It’s not an easy job.”
However, not everyone was completely sold on it, as another reviewer put it: “The music was great, but the movie was like a Hallmark movie. Not horrible but not great.”
