Alaya F, Pooja Bedi’s daughter and Kabir Bedi’s granddaughter, said she was not given films on a silver platter despite her family ties. She said that while nepotism helped her “get (her) foot in the door”, it did not translate into offers for her.
In 2020, Alaya made her Bollywood debut with Jawaani Jaaneman, co-starring Saif Ali Khan and Tabu. Her upcoming projects include the remake U Turn, Freddy with Kartik Aaryan and Ek Aur Ghazab Kahani along with Arjun Kapoor and Aditya Seal.
Speaking to Elle in an interview, Alaya said that although people perceive her as a “product of nepotism”, she “had to win” her first film. “The funny thing is, even though I’m considered a product of nepotism – it did not turn out exactly as it did for other people. After I returned (from New York), I consciously got permission to work with myself. Assuming that once prepared will everything be easy. “It’s not exactly like that,” he said.
“My first meeting with a director (without names) lasted for a minute and a half. It was then that I realized that as long as the training was over, I would still learn the ropes of this business. Then the auditions started, which is a different ball game. It made me realize that while I had it harder than some people, I had it easier than many others. Nepotism helped me get in the door, which in itself is a huge privilege. But he did not give me a movie. “That was the part I had to win,” he added.

Last month, Alaya celebrated the anniversary of her first film, Jawaani Jaaneman. “The movie that changed my whole life is 2 years old. Even two years later, anything related to #JawaaniJaaneman makes me so emotional. What a blessing it was to be part of this project with the most amazing people. “I am forever grateful for Jawaani Jaaneman,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
