Amidst all the buzz surrounding the big screen releases, the Netflix original Jogi, starring Diljit Dosanjh, has managed to grab eyeballs. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has proven successful for its story and presentation. Now, Netflix original creator Ali Abbas Zafar has reacted to its success Jogi while talking about starrer Diljit.

During his chat with Pinkvilla, the director was asked to shed some light on shifting gears from event cinema to films like Jogi. In his reply, Ali asserted, “I have been fortunate to do the big films, which have done big business at the box office. But, as a filmmaker and storyteller, it’s also important to understand the stories that excite you. I really admire the work of filmmakers who were diverse in their choices. “
Continuing, Zafar added, “I get a lot of inspiration from the filmography of Late Yash Chopra Ji – He did all kinds of films. Jogi it’s one of those stories that’s been with me for a long time and I just wanted to do it at the right time.” Explaining his approach to making a film, he said, “We didn’t want to make a film that was too small in terms of audience appeal. His language Jogi it’s commercial – it’s exciting, exciting and emotional.”
Meanwhile, in the chat, the 40-year-old director also shared the details of his production process Jogi. He said, “We wanted this story to reach the maximum number of people. Be it me as a director, Himanshu as a producer or Diljit as an actor. I was very clear, I don’t want this film to be labeled as one of those art films.”
Speaking of the movie, Jogi is available on the streaming giant from September 16, 2022. Along with Diljit Dosanjh, it also features Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Hiten Tejwani and Amyra Dastur.
