Alia Bhatt’s ‘Alpha’ to Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’

Upcoming 2024 Movies With Female Leads: Gone are the days when a director and producer needed a strong male presence on screen to make their films work. With the work of actresses like Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan there is a cinema that is willing to take on a female-led project with high stakes. More recently, the likes of Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut are taking the legacy forward with their upcoming films where women are taking charge.

Yashraj Spu Universe has announced an upcoming female lead film titled ‘Alphna’ starring Alia Bhatt and popular Munjya Sharvari. The announcement was made on YRF’s Instagram with a caption in the voice of Alia Bhatt. The voice highlights the meaning of the word “alpha” as the first letter in the Greek language and the ruler of the “jungle”. The film is now in the production stage without knowing much about the plot.

Release Date: October 11th

Helmed by Vasan Bala, Jigra stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role as the sister of Vedang’s character Raina. Although much of the film’s plot remains under wraps, it is believed to be a film about the common bond of a brother and sister who are each other’s only pillar. Alia Bhatt called it a story of “courage, passion and determination” while talking about her production ventures as she is also producing the film along with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra.

Starring Janhvi Kapoor as a young IFS officer shouldering the legacy of patriots in her family. It is one of the female-led patriotic thrillers in Bollywood on the lines of ‘Raazi’ and ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. The film also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Tailang and Adil Hussain.

Shraddha Kapoor is back with ‘Stree 2’, a sequel to ‘Stree’ a film based on the folk legend of a female ghost who kidnaps men. The film is directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande. The sequel takes place in the same picturesque town of Khanderi where this time a headless man terrorizes its inhabitants.

Kangana Ranaut has written, directed and acted in the film based on Independent India’s Darkest Time, the Emergency of 1987. Ranaut plays the role of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi who declared a state of emergency across the country citing internal and external threats to the country.

From ‘Alpha’ to ‘Emergency’ the women of B-town are taking on strong female characters that promise to inspire and recognize the strengths of womanhood.
