Anurag Kashyap on The Kerala Story controversy: I’m totally against banning anything but it’s a propaganda film | Hindi Movie News

On Saturday, veteran actor Kamal Haasan which is called the Sudipto Sen directed propaganda and said he is dead set against propaganda films as they are based on lies that divide the people of the country. And now a filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has called The Kerala History of propaganda film.
Talking about the movie they continue to be political, Anurag told a news portal that in this day and age there is no escape from politics, adding that it is very difficult for cinema to be non-political. Many propaganda films like The Kerala Story are being made. He said he is against banning anything but remained firm in his views that the film is indeed a propaganda film.
He also added that as a filmmaker he doesn’t want to make a film that looks like anti-propaganda or activist. He said he is making cinema and cinema should be based on reality and truth.

When asked if he can make films he wants given the socio-political climate of the country, Anurag said that if you are honest, you can. They can’t close anything that’s real and they don’t take sides. He added that counter-propaganda can also be dishonest, but honest cannot fight it.
Kerala Story was banned by the West Bengal government, fearing communal tensions. Theaters in Tamil Nadu had decided to stop screening, citing the law and order situation and poor audience turnout. Last week, the Supreme Court stood by the West Bengal government’s order to ban the film in the state and asked Tamil Nadu to ensure the safety of moviegoers.
