Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday praised Rishi Sunak for becoming the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Taking to Instagram, Amitabh posted a picture which he captioned, “Jai Bharat… now the UK finally has a new regent as Prime Minister from the Motherland.” In the picture, Amitabh sported a more edgy look wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and matching pants.

Britain’s Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak on Monday became the UK’s first Indian-origin prime minister, less than two months after losing to Liz Truss in the Tory leadership race. Sunak’s change in fortunes was prompted by Truss’s resignation after she was sacked and resigned from her cabinet following a heavily criticized small budget that sent the British pound crashing.

After being forced to resign after just 45 days in office, Truss became Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister. Standing outside 10 Downing Street, Truss said she recognized she “cannot deliver the mandate” to which she was elected.

Sunak was born in Southampton to parents of Indian descent who immigrated to Britain from East Africa. A graduate of Oxford and Stanford University, Sunak is famously married to Aksatha Murthy, the daughter of NR Narayana Murthy, the billionaire businessman who founded Infosys.

Meanwhile, talking about Amitabh’s work front, he will be next seen in an upcoming family entertainer ‘Uunchai’ alongside Anupam Kher, Boman Irani and Parineeti Chopra. Helmed by Sooraj Barjtaya, the film is slated to hit theaters on November 11, 2022.

Apart from this, he also has a Pan India film ‘Project K’ with Deepika Padukone and Prabhas and ‘The Intern’ in his kitty.
