Chris Pratt has tarnished Mario’s voice for the upcoming animated film. When Chris Pratt was chosen as Mario, many were surprised. Mario has a very special, iconic voice thanks to Charles Martinet and has always maintained a very youthful, innocent and charming Italian tone. Chris Pratt, on the other hand, is not really a voice actor despite his work in animated films such as The LEGO movie and does not exactly seem to have much vocal range. At the moment, no one knows how Pratt’s voice will sound, but it has been stated that he will not use an Italian accent in the Mario movie. One of the producers of the movie Mario also praised Pratt for the role, stating that they “love” his performance as Nintendo’s favorite hero.
In one interview with Variety, Chris Pratt teased what fans can expect from his view of Mario. The Marvel actor said he worked closely with the filmmakers responsible for the animated film to find the perfect voice and agreed on something he is proud of. He also noted that it would seem to be different from what game fans might expect, saying “it is up to date and does not look like anything you have heard in Mario’s world in the past”. It will probably take some time before we get a proper taste of how Chris Pratt will sound as Mario as they continue to record the voice for the film.
“I worked very closely with the directors and tried a few things and came up with something I’m really proud of and I can’t wait for people to see and hear,” Pratt said. “It’s an animated narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not going to wear a plumber costume running everywhere. I provide a voice for a cartoon character and it’s up to date and it doesn’t look like anything you’ve done heard in Mario before.”
The movie Mario was unfortunately delayed for 2023, as it was scheduled to be released this holiday season. Therefore, fans will have to wait a little longer for the new version of the Italian Plumber. This will be the second movie transfer of the Nintendo icon, but hopefully it will be the most accurate to date.
