CIFF launches new podcast series interviewing Oscar-winning Canadian Ben Proudfoot

The Calgary International Film Festival launches a new podcast for Oscar-winning Canadian films.

It is said Movie night with CIFF and started on Tuesday with an interview with guest Ben Proudfoot, who won an Oscar for Best Documentary (Short) for The queen of basketball.

It tells the story of basketball champion Luisa “Lucy” Harris Stewart, who, in the 1970s, led a Mississippi rural college to three national titles. She took the first basket in the history of the Olympic Women before becoming the first – and only – woman to receive the NBA Draft in 1976.

Proudfoot’s previous film, A concert is a conversationalso received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary (Short).

“We started the CIFF podcast as a fun, new way to connect with filmmakers from around the world and share our love for movies. “Movie Night with CIFF is about bringing to our audience insightful and entertaining content that surrounds the world of cinema in a fun and cheeky but accessible way,” said Gaby Aguilar, podcast host and content marketing coordinator. Upcoming podcasts will include guests with other moviegoers and filmmakers. It will be “full of interviews and creative new games, making it an artistic and fun celebration of cinema, society and culture.”

The podcast airs Tuesday at CJSW at 11:30 a.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. It will also be available on Spotify and Apple Music and via CIFF’s Website.
