“There can only be one”, unless we are talking about Highlander. In that case, they’ll just keep making new versions over and over again. At least that’s still the plan, according to me John Wick director Chad Stahelski. He said he was rebooting the fantasy franchise on the big screen Highlander, starring Henry Cavill as the titular Immortal, is still in the works. Just as importantly, he hopes his film won’t be the “only” one to be made. The real prize for Highlander The fans could be a whole new franchise.
Stahelski gave an update on his long-awaited Highlander restarting film when stopped by Josh Horowitz Happy Sad Confused podcast. During the interview (which we first learned about in the IGN), Horowitz asked Stahelski about his status Highlander film. Not only did he say it Highlander The reboot is still in development and offered little detail on what it would bring, but Stahelski’s response revealed that his ultimate goal is to launch an entire Highlander franchise rather than a standalone film.
He told Horowitz, “Our story involves a lot of the same characters and things like that. But we’ve also brought in elements from all the TV shows and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a set-up to The Gathering. So we have room to develop the property.”
How exactly will the new reboot franchise tie in with the previous Christopher Lambert? Highlander show and movies is unknown. As is the nature of Cavill’s exact role on the show, which we first reported in 2021. We know an entire franchise is looking stronger than ever for him. A lot has changed in the actor’s career since he was first associated with the film. He is no longer DC’s Superman or The Witcherit’s geralt. He still knows how to defeat his enemies and wield a sword, so we’ll keep it Highlander The reboot movie will actually lead to a lot more. Can not exist only a new Highlander movie, right?
