Prominent south director Atlee made his big Bollywood debut this year with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. Atlee is now winning accolades from all over the world for his successful feat. In terms of box office records, Jawan is nearing the mark of Rs 500 crore domestically and Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.
Atlee in a recent interview revealed that SRK taught him the concepts of making a film and inspired him to do the same in Bollywood.
He told Indian Express, “Shah Rukh sir has inspired me, not only as an actor, but also as a producer. I have learned the art by spending four years with him. Now, I have started film production here (Bollywood). I have already done a couple of films in the south, and now I have started producing everywhere — producing two in Tamil, two in Telugu, two in Hindi.”
The next Atlee in Bollywood is a mass entertainer starring Varun Dhawan in the starrer title VD18.
He is the producer of this film along with five other films. Tamil director Kalees known for his 2019 film Kee will take the director’s seat in Varun’s film. Talking about the same, Atlee shared, “About Varun’s film, it will be a massive film. We can expect the same calibration of the mass in the theater.”
VD 18 will hit theaters on May 31, 2024.
Atlee was recently asked to choose his favorite character whose spin-off he is interested in doing. He replied to Pinkvilla, “Definitely Vikram Rathore. Vikram Rathore is my hero. Maybe one day, I’ll do a spin-off of this. Let’s see. I’m a daddy’s boy and as such, I love writing strong father characters. You can see it in all my films.”
Atlee hinted at the Jawan sequel.
In the same conversation, Atlee expressed, “Each of my films has an open ending, but till date, I have never thought of making a sequel to any of my films. For Jawan, if something strong comes to me, I will do a second part. I have kept an open ending and can come up with a sequel now or later. But I will definitely come up with a Jawan sequel one day.”
Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki opposite Taapsee Pannu. Varun who was last seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal will next be seen in the Indian version of the action thriller, Citadel. Also starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the series is directed by The Family Man director duo Raj and DK.
