Nawazuddin Siddiqui protagonist Handy is a crime revenge drama featuring Haddi and Harika, a transgender woman and the challenges that come with it. He is joined in the film by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. In an exclusive chat the actor talked about the USP of the film.
There have been many crime revenge dramas out there on OTT. When asked why audiences should spend their time watching Handy or what was its USP, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub said, “I think of Hadi The USP lies in the unconventional depiction of the transgender narrative. There are many OTT crime and revenge dramas but I think the few things that are put in this movie like the social element, the approach of the protagonist and how things change are the factors that make it different. It is a special film and I am sure the audience has not seen such kind of films. The treatment of the film is such that they change the protagonist to a transgender because of which the politics and equations between people change, which is beautiful.”
Trans people are undermined in society at large. There aren’t many movies with the protagonists. When asked how differently they will be portrayed Handy, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub responded, “What I saw in general was that when there’s a particular character, like a trans, gay or any character from the LGBTQ community, they try to take the humor out of it and people fail to give dignity to those characters. characters. . From this we know the thinking of society, which I think becomes a problem.”
He further added, “Handy does not have this problem, because the character has been treated with full dignity and their humor has been used. It’s not all heavy moments, there are lighter scenes/moments and I think that’s the beauty of this movie. The way the LGBTQ community engages in conversation, the shared humor—these aspects have been portrayed with complete respect and dignity, avoiding any ridicule. In that regard, I believe the film will do justice to the characters and the concept of the film.”
Directed by debutant Akshat Ajay Sharma, this gritty noir revenge drama stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Anurag Kashyap in lead roles along with Ila Arun, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Saurabh Sachdeva, Shridhar Dubey, Rajesh Kumar, Vipin Shuklahar and Sauklahar. roles.
