Director Sooraj Barjatya has given some of the most iconic family dramas in Bollywood. His films were nothing short of a celebration of relationships, values and Indian culture. However, when the poster of his next directorial Udsai released, left many concerned but also excited. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungamathe director talked about a different route this time.

We asked him what the public can expect Udsai, as usual a Sooraj Barjatya film is all about weddings, and Salman Khan. In his reply, Barjatya asserted, “Udsai alag bhi hai par in basic family film hi hai. But haan, a graduation hain we just say as a director. Ismai sahanubhutiya wahi hai, bhavnaien wahi hai, family view wahi hai (Udsai it’s different, but it’s a family film at its core. As a director I graduated with this film. It really has sympathy, feelings, and family viewing.)”
He further elaborated, “Jo normally ghar ka set hota hai. I usually have the floors in my studio. Idhar maine pehli baar outdoor kiya hai. Nepal gaya, Kanpur gaya, Gorakhpur gaya, Lucknow gaya. There is also no proper song for hero-heroines.’
He then revealed that the story of the film stuck with him. Recalling the nationwide lockdown, Barjatya added that it proved that a real hero is a person who is courageous. And when he found that courage Udsai, he couldn’t let it go. So, he thought of telling a courageous story with fun and laughter.
Talking about Udsai, the film is slated to release on November 11. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani. It explores the story of three friends, who decide to climb Mount Everest to fulfill their late friend’s last wish.
