In his exclusive interview Bollywood Hungama, Taran Adarsh spoke about how films, directors and actors are underrated by film critics. He himself not only recalled how Gadar had been written off but also revealed how there was a section of people who did not appreciate Gadar 2 and there were even film critics who had even written off the film. “Gadar The first part was trashed and deleted. Recently, when I was in Australia, I got a call to say “Gadar 2 it was an outdated film”, what Anil Sharma did ruined it Gadar 2 ko etc. They were all negative. Of course, they were only from a small section of people and they were so cut off from the world.”
He continued, “Then there were some critics. Teek hai main maanta hoon aap ko picture pasand nahi. Ah ha ha. Aisha and baar hota hai ki apko, inko, kishi aur ko image pasad nahi aati, lekin muje aati hai. (I agree you didn’t like the movie. That’s a good thing and happens quite often where one person likes the movie and the other doesn’t). That’s okay because opinions can differ. But the point is aap jab uski dajiya udaane lag jaate hain, mazaak banane lag jaate hain, (but when you start making memes out of it and ruining the content of the movie) that is wrong. If you don’t like it, no problem. Write negative about the movie, criticize it yourself because that’s your job – to like or dislike a movie. But don’t make a buffoon out of it. Don’t use personal attack because these are all wrong things. Don’t hit below the belt.”
He further concluded by arguing that at the end of the day the value of a critic’s opinion can only be so much because at the end of the day, it is the audience that seals the fate of a film. “And kya ehmiyat reh gayi aapki dedh – do star ki – (what will the one and a half two stars you give) matter for films like Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, The girl of dreams 2, and others? Darshakon ne aapko kharara jawab diya hai (audience has responded well to it). Janta Janardhan is the final verdict. Kyunki jab woh bolte hain tab duniya sunti hai. Aapke, mere, unke bolne se koi farak nahi padta (When they speak, people will listen to them. You and I talking about it will make no difference),” concluded the critic.
Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, also features Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur Randhawa in lead roles along with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. The film was released on August 11.
