Here’s a list of the entertainment giant’s upcoming titles
Over the weekend, The Walt Disney Company held its annual D23 Expo, the ultimate Disney fan event, in Anaheim, California. For three days, the company behind Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Studios, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, 20th Century Studios and Disney Branded Television announced major news about its upcoming movie and TV show releases. Among the highlights of the event were the unveiling of the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid”, the arrival of the “Fantastic Four” and the announcement of the new “Indiana Jones” movie.
If you weren’t able to make it to the D23 Expo, here are some of the upcoming movies you should be looking forward to.
Disney live-action movies
Following the success of previous remakes of its classic animated films such as ‘The Lion King’, ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Aladdin’, Disney presents its latest live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’. Scheduled for release in May 2023, the film features Halle Bailey as the mermaid princess Ariel. Also part of the entertainment giant’s roster of upcoming live-action movies is “Mufasa: The Lion King,” the prequel to the beloved “The Lion King,” set for release in 2024.
Disney+
It will release sequels “Hocus Pocus 2” and “Disenchanted” on its streaming platform this year on September 30 and November 24, respectively. While the fantasy adventure film “Peter Pan & Wendy” has yet to announce its 2023 release date.
Miracle
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans can expect more action from the epic film franchise with the arrival of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” the film that will close Phase 4 of the MCU.
Opening Phase 5 is “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which hits theaters on February 17, 2023. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return as Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne as they explore more of the Quantum Realm .
Actor Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will headline Captain America: New World Order, which will be released on May 3, 2024.
During Walt Disney Studios – Lucasfilm & Marvel Studios’ presentation at the show, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also announced the arrival of a “Fantastic Four” movie, headed by director Matt Shakman. Although its cast is yet to be revealed, the film is already slated to release on November 8, 2024.
Closing out the MCU’s Phase 5 offering is “Thunderbolts.” The cast includes David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen and Olga Kurylenko and is scheduled to premiere on July 26, 2024.
20th century
“Avatar: The Way of Water” is set to bring viewers to the underwater world of Pandora. This sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 hit is set to hit theaters in December.
Lucasfilm
Harrison Ford is reprising his role as the famous archaeologist in an upcoming Indiana Jones movie. The fifth film in the action-adventure film franchise will premiere on June 30, 2023.
