INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY Composer Says Upcoming Retakes Will Change Film’s Ending

by Stewart Cole

There has been a lot of chatter surrounding James Mangold’s plans Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, with some pretty divisive rumors suggesting that the film will end with Indy passing the torch to his godmother Helena. The director has debunked this (more than once), though it sounds like there are going to be some big changes to the hero’s latest adventure.

Harrison Ford recently made it clear that the film will serve as a farewell to his role, while Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has promised Indiana Jones fans that it will never be renewed.

Regardless, one of the biggest talking points when it comes to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was the fact that legendary composer John Williams will return to score the action. He previewed some of this music in Italy and while addressing the audience, he dropped the bombshell about the upcoming film.

“Well we just finished the movie” Williams started (via ActioNewz.com). “We have maybe one more ending to shoot and record, maybe a couple [of] weeks.”

Remakes often change movies, but an alternate ending suggests that a decision has been made to completely change how Indy’s story concludes. While we don’t believe half the silly rumors floating around the internet, if test audiences have been underwhelming with any kind of potential passing of the lens to create a new franchise lead, then maybe that was once really the plan.

Joining Ford next are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (as the aforementioned Helena), Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Oliver Richters, Ethann Isidore and Mads Mikkelsen.

The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. As noted, John Williams, who has scored every Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, he re-composes the score, meaning we can look forward to hearing this classic theme again.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
