Warner Bros has released a new trailer for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, the sequel to the 1988 comedy-horror classic. Michael Keaton returns as the smelly, shape-shifter, along with new cast members Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux. Also reprising their roles from the original film are Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” sees the Deetz clan return to their Winter River home after a sudden death in the family. When Lydia’s (Ryder) rebellious teenage daughter Astrid (Ortega) discovers a portal to the afterlife hidden in the basement, the mischievous spirit Beetlejuice’s name inevitably recurs three times, inviting him to wreak havoc on the Deetz family home once more time.
“The living, the dead… can they coexist? That’s what we’re here to find out,” Ryder’s Lydia says in the trailer.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is the latest horror title starring Queen Ortega, who has made a name for herself as a genre staple. He previously starred in the Netflix original series “Wednesday” as a member of the Addams Family, as well as Ti West’s “X” and two installments of the rebooted “Scream” franchise. However, it was recently announced that Ortega would not be returning for “Scream 7” due to a scheduling conflict with “Wednesday” Season 2.
Tim Burton is returning to produce and direct the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel from a script by ‘Wednesday’ writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Executive producers include Brad Pitt, David Katzenberg, Laurence Senelick, Gough, Millar, Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder and Andrew Lary. Tommy Harper, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner serve as producers. Danny Elfman is set to compose the score for the film.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will haunt cinemas from September 6. Watch the trailer below.
