Karan Johar, who is currently riding high on his blockbuster success Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, has not reacted to many accusations that have fallen on him in recent years. We can say that the director reacted to only a few statements and recently, he decided to react to being called a “film mafia” as well as open up about the time, he was trolled a lot on social media, for allegedly promoting nepotism.
In a recent interview with Sucharita Tyagi, he revealed that Hiroo Johar’s mother was very upset and had felt traumatized when her son was accused and trolled on social media. Recalling her reaction, Karan Johar said, “Over the last three years, I felt like there was a lot of hate coming my way and it really took a toll on my mom. I literally saw her collapse under it because she used to watch because she used to watch TV channels. He was reading things on the Internet. It was quite like that in the belts. He would see TV presenters screaming and yelling and saying the most adorable things like me, demonizing me for some reason. Then there were people writing the same thing on Twitter and other social media platforms.”
He went on to talk about how he dealt with the situation as he continued to reassure himself that he is strong. “All I had to be was resilient at that time because I had to be strong for my mother and for myself. You feel kind of naked after this happened. Abhi toh kapde utar di hai sabne. Abhi kya chupana? Kisske ladna? (Now that everything is out in the open. I have nothing to hide. And nothing to fight.) Everyone somehow invaded your life anyway, made assumptions. They don’t know the person I am. They just did this perception of the mafia or something they keep talking about. They don’t know how a producer on a daily basis tries to get his/her cast,” he added.
On the work front, Karan Johar recently returned to directing after seven years Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film, which also stars Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles, released on 28 July.
