Raniganj mission is a film depicting a coal mine accident that shocked the nation and the world. The film narrates the relentless efforts of the rescue team led by the brave Jaswant Singh Gill (played by Akshay Kumar). To ensure that the visual effects portrayed the authentic and relatable essence of this tragic incident, Tinu Desai and his dedicated team embarked on a remarkable endeavor: they dug a hole sunk 30 to 40 feet deep into the earth.
Elaborating, director Tinu Desai said, “It was a challenging film to shoot, mainly because a major part was shot on location. Given the subject matter of the film, our aim was to maintain authenticity and relevance in the setting and setting. We collectively decided to dig a hole underground, reaching depths of about 30 to 40 feet, which looks like 1/10th of a real coal mine.”
He continued, “The most daunting task was recreating a set that looked authentically like a coal mine of that era. Furthermore, our aim was to evoke the real sense of suffocation experienced by the trapped miners during the tragic event. We instructed the operators to immerse themselves in the same conditions as real miners. I am grateful to Vashuji, Jackky, Deepshikha and everyone at Pooja Entertainment for facilitating the necessary resources to carry out this painstaking mining work while ensuring the safety of all our crew members and actors.”
Starring Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Sharma, Virendra Saxena, Shishir Sharma, Ananth Mahadevan, Jameel Khan, Sudhir Pandey, Bachan Pachera, Mukesh Mapurhat, Raniganj mission it is an ode to the resilience, determination and brilliance of the human spirit and engineering minds. The film will hit theaters on October 6, 2023.
