Nancy Meyers brings her cinematic talents (and her impeccable cuisines) to Netflix, where she will write, direct and produce a new feature film.
The news of the collaboration comes after Meyers and Netflix collaborated to release the short film “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish),” which debuted on the streamer’s social channels in 2020. The special project brought together cast of “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride Part II” – Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kieran Culkin, George Newbern and Martin Short – for the first time in 25 years, with Robert De Niro, Florence Pugh, Alexandra Shipp and Ben Platt were added to the mix, and Meyers wrote and directed the Banks family reunion clip (produced by Reese Witherspoon), which benefited the World Central Kitchen.
The details of the new film are minimal, although the play is described as an ensemble comedy, a formula that Meyers has mastered over the course of her career. After winning an Oscar for “Private Benjamin” and writing and producing “Father of the Bride,” Meyers made her directorial debut with “The Parent Trap” in 1998. The successful film stars Dennis Quaid. and the late Natasha Richardson and marked Lindsay Lohan’s first feature film. Meyers went on to write, direct and produce classics such as “Something’s Gotta Give”, “The Holiday”, “It’s Complicated”, and co-directed “What Women Want”. The new Netflix movie marks its first feature film after Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro of 2015 “The Intern”.
From Meyers’ production film, only “Something’s Gotta Give” from 2003, starring Keaton and Jack Nicholson, is currently available on Netflix. Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s daughter’s directorial debut in 2017 “Home Again”, starring Witherspoon, is also in the streaming service.
Meyers is represented by CAA and attorney Craig Emanuel.
The deadline was the first to report on the deal.
