Metalocalypse has been gearing up for a big comeback and now they’ve revealed their release window for their new film project! Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha’s original animated series concluded its run in 2013 with a special hour-long grand finale that offered a full-on rock opera for Dethklok’s latest adventure. It looked like the franchise was over, but not only is Small back touring with the real-life band Dethklok (as well as making new music), but the franchise is also coming back for a new movie in the near future.
Metalocalypse First announced to be in the works during the Spring 2021 season, Metalocalypse is working on a new film project to be released on Blu-ray, DVD and digital media. This new film has been pretty secretive about what to expect from its new story or music, but during the live stream accompanying the Adult Swim Festival in Philadelphia this weekend, it was announced that the new Metalocalypse is still on track for release in 2023.
Unfortunately, more specific details about its release are not yet available as of this writing. Given what’s going on with HBO Max, it’s probably good news moving forward (for this and Adult Swim’s other movie projects), but as for what to expect from the new Metalocalypse When the movie comes out, Adult Swim’s initial announcement describes the project as, “The power-hungry TRIBUNAL unveils their secret and deadly ‘Falconback Project’ as the world grows into warlike chaos and the menacing Doomstar tears through Earth’s atmosphere while the mysterious and twisted One band member’s disagreement threatens Dethklok’s future.
Picking up immediately after the heroic rescue of Toki Wartooth: Can Dethklok choose between their egos and the greater good of the world to enter a gauntlet of dangers that will test their very souls and ultimately write the song that will be salvation their; The new film is the creation of Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha. The film’s soundtrack will be released on WaterTower Music.”
