Batman director and co-writer Matt Reeves said he had based his version of the character on Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, and explained why Robert Pattinson he was the right actor to portray him.
The relaunch of the Reeves superhero franchise is set to hit theaters in March. 4, with the first trailer (available below) featuring the Nirvana track “Something in the Way”, and a more recent promo featuring an orchestral version of the same song. In a recent interview with Empire, the director said the choice was deliberate.
“When I write, I listen to music,” he said, “and as I was writing the first act, I put on Nirvana’s ‘Something In The Way’… That’s when I thought about it, instead of making Bruce Wayne the playboy. version we have seen before, there is another version that had gone through a great tragedy and became a hermit. “So I started making this connection with Gus Van Sad’s ‘Last Days’ and the idea of this novel by Curt Cobain being in this kind of dilapidated mansion.”
The movie of 2005 Last days explores the last chapter of a rock star’s life and leans loosely on Cobain. When Reeves saw Pattinson in the 2017 film Good time, decided to approach the actor to play his Batman. “In that movie you could really feel his vulnerability and despair, but you could also feel his strength,” Reeves said. “I thought it was a great mix. He also has this thing of Kurt Cobain, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel that he could be deserted “.
Pattinson noted: “Bruce is in hiding. In fact, he is not social at all. He builds all these little tricks and things, only with Alfred. “And even Alfred thinks he’s crazy!” He added that when he first appeared in the new film, Batman “has been out every night for two years, being beaten, shot, stabbed and burned, and it shows. A bullet is heard in the cover, right at the beginning. “I do not think it has happened again.”
