The first trailer for Nightmare Alley has been released and Guillermo del Toro’s new film looks pretty creepy.
The film follows Carnival manipulator Stan Carlisle (played by Bradley Cooper), who joins forces with the dangerously fatal woman Dr. Lilith Ritter (Cate Blanchett). Also starring Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe and Rooney Mara.
The trailer shows Cooper’s character connected to a lie detector, revealing that he is a “true medium” and can read the thoughts “under the right circumstances. We also see Blanchett’s character, who has an ominous warning:” If “When the right people are upset, the world closes in on you very, very quickly.”
Based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name, the story has already been adapted for the screen once in 1947. Unlike the 1947 version, Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley has an R rating, but the film appears to have survived. backdrop of the 1940s, playing tribute to the golden age of film noir.
This is del Toro’s first film since 2017 The shape of water, which was nominated for 13 Oscars and won four, including Best Picture and Best Director. He also has a Pinocchio remake in the works for Netflix, which will be released sometime later in the year (although a specific date has not yet been confirmed). The voice of the film includes Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton and Christoph Waltz.
