Bollywood Hungama was on the front lines to report on the reopening of cinemas in Kashmir. The first multiplex in the beautiful state opened on September 20, 2022. Two days earlier, on September 18, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the multi-purpose cinema halls, located in Pulwama and Shopian districts. RRR (2022) was the first Kashmiri film to be screened in these theaters and also the first film to be screened in Kashmir in three decades. Last week, we also mentioned how Shah Rukh Khan is doing Pathan (2023) will be the first film to be screened at the newly opened theaters in Kashmir’s Baramulla and Handwara.

And now, Kashmiri theaters are back in the news, thanks to Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan’s direction is going beyond expectations across the country and Inox Srinagar is no exception. It emerged as Hollywood’s top grosser and could potentially become the state’s top Hollywood grosser, beating out other recent Hollywood biggies such as Quick X (2023), John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023), Avatar: The Way Of Water (2022) etc.

Social media has a view that Oppenheimer is the first Hollywood film to be sold out at Inox Srinagar. However, Vikas Dar clarified, “Oppenheimer it is the first Hollywood film to have such a great response in our theater. Avatar: The Way Of Water sold out and so did a few other films. But to have such a solid response and packed shows for three days is a first. For Avatar: The Way Of Water, we received a few inquiries before it came out. However, for Oppenheimer, we started getting inundated with inquiries four weeks before its release. The moviegoers have been asking us to release the film in our theater on the same day as the rest of India.”

Looking at the answer to Oppenheimersources at the show believe that it won’t be a surprise if it makes its way into Shah Rukh Khan’s collections Pathan at Inox Srinagar or near it.

Vikas Dhar reacted to these claims, “I don’t think so. I’d be really surprised if it happens. Shah Rukh Khan’s fan following here is second to none. We are already getting inquiries for his next film, Jawan. Some of the comments we’ve had recently are: “I’ll come and see Oppenheimer but actually i am waiting Jawan’!”

At Inox Srinagar, Oppenheimer plays four shows a day in the English version and one show is of the Hindi dubbed version. Vikas Dhar continued, “Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy have such a die-hard fan following here. It is a lesson for us that even in Kashmir, people follow these artists. Our audience has acquired an international flavor. It’s pretty exciting.”

In the meantime, Oppenheimer has raised nearly Rs. 30 crores in two days in India and has a chance to cross Rs. 100 crores mark.
