The new animated film ‘Watchmen’ is coming.

Warner Bros. Pictures

DC has announced two new animated films – a new adaptation of Alan Moore’s ‘Watchmen’ and an adaptation of ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths’.

The reveal took place at San Diego Comic-Con after a screening of “Justice League: Warworld,” an upcoming animated feature from DC Animation set in their joint “Tomorrowverse” initiative that began in 2020.

The “Watchmen” movie will be rated R, but no other release details have been announced at this time, so it’s unclear if it’s a direct adaptation or a possible sequel like the HBO live-action series was.

The original 1986 “Watchmen” comic was previously adapted for the screen by Zack Snyder in 2009, though that film famously changed the ending.

Similarly, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” was also a famous crossover event comic in 1985, one of the most important story arcs in comic history and dealt with the multiverse as things were compressed into a single DC verse – causing a shift in all comics published going forward.

“Watchmen” and “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths” will be streaming directly to disc in 2024. “Justice League: Warworld” will be available on disc and digital starting Tuesday.
