Renowned actor Pankaj Tripathi recently shared an interesting insight into his preparation for the role of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the film directed by Ravi Jadhav Main Atal Hoon. Tripathi revealed that he exclusively consumed khichadi for 60 days on set, and moreover, he personally prepared it every time.
In a recent chat with Film Companion, Pankaj Tripathi shed light on his unique dietary choice. He claimed, “In Atal, I shot for about 60 days, and for those 60 days, I ate only khichdi, and what was cooked by me.” The actor explained why he chose to cook khichdi himself instead of relying on others or ordering it from a restaurant. He said, “You never know how others will make it. I don’t put oil or masala in it. I just use plain dal, chawal and local vegetables, which are available.”
Tripathi reflected on his younger days, when he could act even after a samosa. However, over time, his food choices have evolved. He admitted, “When I was young, I could act even after eating a samosa. But now I don’t even remember the last time I ate a samosa. Now I need ‘Saatvik’ food to keep my system right.”
The acclaimed actor emphasized the importance of proper nutrition for actors, not only to maintain good health but also to accurately portray the emotions of their characters. Tripathi stated, “As an actor, if your stomach is not good and you eat something unhealthy and you think you will be able to impress, then you are wrong. That’s why on the day of the shoot, I only eat khichdi.”
Talking about his upcoming film, Main Atal Hoonis a biographical film dedicated to the late political luminary and former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
