Peacock wants to attract more potential subscribers to its service by announcing that from 2022 the streaming service will have the latest Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Illumination and DreamWorks Animation movies already 45 days after their release in cinemas. So, for example, if you want to stream Downton Abbey: A New Era, Peacock will be the place you can do it before anywhere else.
Downton Abbey is just the tip of the iceberg. In Universal docket for 2022 there are movies like The 355 Starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o and Penelope Cruz. Ticket to Paradise with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. horror movie The Blackphone starring Ethan Hawke. Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson rom-com Marry me; a new Michael Bay movie, Ambulance; animation movie The Evil Ones; and the latest movie in the new Carnival trilogy, Halloween is over.
This new feature for Peacock attendees will be combined with what the streaming service already offers, which includes a library of classic TV shows and movies, access the next day to current NBC shows, Peacock prototypes and live sports. Just be aware, while a free version of Peacock is available, some of these features are only available to Peacock Premium subscribers. NBCUniversal did not explicitly say whether these new movies would be available to all Peacock users or to Peacock Premium subscribers only.
“As we continue to invest in the most valuable and sought-after content for Peacock, movies are essential to this mix,” said Kelly Campbell, President, Peacock. “The Universal Filmed Entertainment Group team is a fantastic partner and we are excited to bring the amazing Peacock franchise movies and favorites to cinemas 45 days after their release in theaters and provide a steady stream of fresh, original films exclusively for Peacock Customers throughout the year. ”
Peacock is simply the latest streaming service that enhances its profile by making themselves the landing sites for the latest streaming movies. Last year we saw Warner Bros. release its latest movies on HBO Max at the same time as the movies for a limited time (this is going to end in 2022, but imagine that WB movies will continue to be shown first on HBO Max). Disney Plus also released same-day movie releases via Disney Plus Premiere Access for a while, before moving on with a 30-45 day window between movie release and streaming. and Paramount Plus have developed essentially the same policy as Peacock, which owns ViacomCBS, which owns Paramount Pictures, and Peacock owns NBCUniversal.
Peacock is accessible on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and tablet platforms, Apple devices, Google and Android platforms, Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, smart TVs and PCs.
