Poonam Dhillon wanted to do just one film and go back to studies but… | Bollywood

Poonam Dhillon made her acting debut in Yash Chopra’s Trishul in 1978 with a star-studded cast. The family drama starred Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhee, Hema Malini, Sachin Pilgaonkar and Waheeda Rehman in a special appearance. The veteran actress, whose birthday is on April 18, revealed that she never had any plans for a film career when she signed the film. He shared that he had no ego problem sharing the screen with so many big names.


Poonam Dhillon paired opposite Sachin Pilgaonkar in her debut film Trishul, directed by Yash Chopra.

When Poonam agreed to the film, she was still in school and was excited to work alongside Amitabh Bachchan and the rest of the film’s stars. She was paired with Sachin and their song Gapoochi Gapoochi Gum Gum also became a big hit. Yash was then signed for a lead role in the drama Noorie with Farooq Shaikh, which also became a hit, especially for its music. She was also nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance as the female lead.

In an old interview with Lehren, the actress shared why she got into movies. He said: “I never did [Trishul] thinking that it was my first film or that I will make my career. I did it thinking I want to make a movie. Like an adventure. I was not a professional. I was a schoolgirl who didn’t know about movies, movie length, role or importance. I had no ego problem or such understanding. I thought I will make a film and go back to my studies. Actually, that’s what I did. I finished school and entered college. I had done few months in college and got urgent messages from Yash ji that there is a beautiful role. I want you to make another film.”



Other notable films of the actor include Sohni Mahiwal, Teri Kasam, Dard, Yeh Vaada Raha and Jai Shiv Shankar. In 2009, she was a part of the third season of Bigg Boss and ended up as the second runner-up. Poonam was last seen in the Netflix film Plan A Plan B opposite Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia. She also made her digital debut with the Disney+ web series Hotstar Dil Bekaraar with Raj Babbar in 2021.
