The movie has Ranbir Kapoorr playing a dual role of Shamshera and Balli. Talking about shedding the image from his previous coming-of-age films, Ranbir said that Shamshera gave him an opportunity to play the lead hero of Hindi films.
Ranbir told indianexpress.com, “Leaving aside the joy of playing the hero, it is again a great script as much as Barfi or Sanju. It was aimed at a larger audience. It had an array of emotions, amazing characters and some amazing action sequences. It was a larger-than-life movie.”
Sanjay Dutt plays Daroga Shuddh Singh. The latter is reuniting with Karan Malhotra after 2012’s Agneepath, where he played the main villain Kaancha Cheena. The actor said that Shamshera is made for the masses. He told us, “Shamshera is an amazing film, the most commercial film I have come across in recent times, it is made for the masses. This is a job that I have done all my life, but it has been forgotten somewhere in Bollywood.”
