There have been many announcements from this year’s Hall H at Comic-Con, one of the biggest being 100% confirmation that Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, is indeed Captain America in the future. Director Julius Onah is all set to helm the MCU adventure with Wilson holding the shield. Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who worked with Wilson in The Falcon and Winter Soldier, will co-write the film.
The new Captain America movie will be at the end of the recently revealed Phase 5, and will hit theaters just before the Thunderbolts complete the new wave with a tentative date of May 3, 2024.
Exact plot details are still up in the air, but the story could be almost anything. However, with a name like New World Order, chances are we could see Nick Spencer’s controversial Captain America mixed with Secret Empire, or perhaps something even more modern, taking notes from Ta-Nehisi Coates and the Winter In America by Leinil Francis Yu.
There was a bit of discussion online with former Cap costar Chris Evans clarifying this Wilson will take on the Cap uniform since it looked like Steve Rogers might be back. In The Falcon and Winter Soldier series, it was clear that Sam had been officially named as Captain America when John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, hadn’t exactly succeeded.
Captain America: New World Order is just one of the recent announcements leading up to the upcoming Phase 5 of the MCU.
