Shakun Batra director’s latest release, Gehraiyaan, has divided audiences. The film deals with infidelity, with Deepika Padukone as a woman who has a relationship with her cousin’s fiancé (played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, with Ananya Panday playing the cousin).
While it has received largely positive reviews from critics, the audience response has been quite polarizing. Director Shakun himself admitted in a recent interview that he received rather conflicting comments, ranging from abusive e-mails to appreciation.
In an interview with film critic Sucharita Tyagi on her YouTube channel, Shakun said: “I had an e-mail with the subject B **** d (a word in Hindi). Then the e-mail said,” B ** ** d სურათი banani nahi aati hai to kyun banata hai; Kuch aur kar leta (If you do not know how to make a movie, why? Do something else). “
However, Shakun said many also praised the film. He added, “Then I got an email from a psychologist in Brisbane who said that the psychology of the characters really made it. I feel a cognitive discrepancy. I have made peace with two completely opposite thoughts in my mind. I do not. “I think you forget the movie, it’s the development inside me that I have accepted the polarization. I think I grew up.”
Many fans have appreciated the mature perception of adult relationships, non-critical relationships and infidelity in the film. However, others criticized the film because it was superficial or even what they felt promoted or glorified adultery.
Prior to the film’s release, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Shakun said he did not want to judge the characters in his film. “For me, it is a responsibility that when I get a character or a subject – in this case, infidelity – I make sure not to try to take sides, but make sure the audience comes in with the same curiosity I had. . Let them come up with an answer as opposed to me telling them. “This is the effort,” he said.

Gehraiyaan was released on Amazon Prime Video on February 11. The film also stars Dhairya Karwa, Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor in important roles.
