Last month, Stephen King fans everywhere got some bad news as it was reported that director Gary Dauberman Salems Lot moved its release date from fall to spring 2023. It was sad news for those waiting for the upcoming film — but there’s a terrific silver lining: there’s still a King adaptation coming this fall, and according to the writer , “is nothing short of brilliant.”
A film version of the novel “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” directed by John Lee Hancock, is set to premiere as a Netflix exclusive in the final months of 2022, and while the film doesn’t have a set release date, Stephen King has already seen it . The beloved author took to his own Twitter account this morning to share his update and opinion on the project, and all signs point to now being the time to start advertising:
I have seen an almost finished cut of MR. HARRIGAN’S PHONE, written and directed by John Lee Hancock, and it is nothing short of excellent. Donald Sutherland, Jaeden Martell. Netflix. This fall.August 12, 2022
“Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” is one of Stephen King’s latest novellas, published in 2020 collection If He Bleeds. The story follows a boy named Craig who lives in a small town in Maine and starts working for his neighbor, an old, rich man named Mr. Harrigan. When the kid wins $3,000 from a scratch-off lottery ticket given to him by his employer, he uses some of the winnings to get a present for Mr. Harrigan – namely a newly released iPhone. The former businessman is enchanted by the machine… and the miracle ends up being far beyond surprising with modern technology, as after his death, the device continues to let him communicate with Craig from beyond the grave .
Jaeden Martell, who Constant Readers will recognize from his role as Bill Denbrough THE and IT Chapter 2plays Craig in his adaptation Mr. Harrigan’s phone numberand Donald Sutherland plays the titular character (having previously played Richard Strucker in the 2004 miniseries remake Salems Lot). The Stephen King adaptation has a supporting cast that also includes Joe Tippett and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
Now this Mr. Harrigan’s phone number has Stephen King’s enthusiastic stamp of approval, our anticipation for the film has only grown stronger… although unfortunately we still don’t know when the film will be released as part of Netflix’s 2022 film schedule. You can definitely expect from CinemaBlend to report this information when it becomes available.
