Studio Ghibli provides information on Hayao Miyazaki’s new film and theme park

by Stewart Cole

Hayao Miyazaki recently celebrated his 81st birthday, announcing in 2021 that the legendary animator was about to retire after completing his next film with Studio Ghibli, and the animation production company recently gave an update not only on How do you live? but also in their upcoming theme park. With Universal Studios Japan being the first anime amusement park in the past, it seems that its creator My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away is going to act as competitors as it will bring to life some of their favorite properties.

Studio Ghibli provided the following information on the production of their next animated film, as well as the current state of their amusement park, which is going to recreate many magical locations created by the studio over the decades in many films:

“Happy New Year! Director Hayao Miyazaki’s new animated film is in production. Ghibli Park in Aichi Province is scheduled to open in the fall. Work is underway at both locations and we look forward to sharing the results in the opening days.”

Ghibli’s previous film did not have Miyazaki at the helm, but it was discussed by fans in part because it was the first film the studio created using computer-generated graphics. Earwig And The Witch told a story that would exactly match its predecessors, presenting a young girl who discovers a world of witches and the supernatural, but had a distinctly different aesthetic than the one we had seen from Ghibli before.

Studio Ghibli Amusement Park has kept fans informed when it comes to opening its doors, with the site having the following areas within its walls: “Hill of Youth, Ghibli’s Large Warehouse, Mononoke’s Village, Valley of Witches and Dondoko Forest, “With Ghibli known for its lush surroundings and detailed animation in its properties, it will certainly be interesting to see how the films are translated into the real world and whether the theme park project will be a success.
