For someone who has always been part of the masala entertainers of Bollywood, Sunny LeonePersonal choice of cinema is a little different. And for the first time in her 11-year Bollywood career, she got a chance to explore something she longed to do, with Anurag Kashyap‘small Kennedywhich features her playing a character we’ve never seen before.
Says Sunny, “I love people who make cinema that is different and not your normal cookie-cutter story, as that’s the kind of content I like to watch.” Elaborating on her experience of working with Anurag, she shares, “Last year I did three films and this is the first of those films that shows a different side of me. When Anurag sir approached me for this project, it was just unbelievable. I like his style of cinema and I really enjoyed working with him. It brought out a different side of me and pushed me to do it in a way that other filmmakers haven’t. The kind of emotion he puts into everything he does is amazing. My favorite Anurag Kashyap movie of all time is Gangs of Wasseypur.”
Interestingly, the neo-noir thriller also gave Sunny an opportunity to debut in the Cannes Film Festival this year. She is expected to arrive in Cannes by May 21 and will be present at the premiere of her film at the Midnight Screening. She says, “I’m so overwhelmed… I can’t believe where I started in Bollywood to where I’ve come – it’s been a long journey. I am excited that a film with a leading man will be screened in a prestigious theater there.”
