Taapsee Pannu has been delivering back-to-back films of late and some have even come out with a whimper. One of them was her sports biopic, Shabaash Mithu. Based on cricket star Mithali Raj, the film received a lukewarm reception at the box office upon its release last month. However, it eventually found an audience on Netflix, where it was recently released. The film is number one in India on Netflix, ahead of even Alia Bhatt’s Darlings. Sharing a snapshot of the same, Taapsee wrote in her post, “Thank you all, theater mein na sahi, OTT pe toh pyaar mila. Aur kaafi bumper open lagi hai yahan toh (If not in theatres, at least we loved here. We open a bumper here).”

She also tweeted that despite the good response on OTT, she wished people would watch her film in theatres. “Thank you all! My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since #ShabaashMithu released on OTT platform. I’m not sure how I feel exactly why I’d like you all to watch it in theaters but still glad you all got to see our little one gem. Hard work never goes unnoticed,” he wrote.

Directed by Srijit Mukherji, the film released on 15 July 2022 and failed to impress the audience at the box office. It chronicles the highs and lows, setbacks and euphoria of Raj’s life.

The film was also released on Voot Select. Taapsee had earlier said that she was excited about the film’s digital release and was looking forward to the audience’s reaction. “I am very excited about its launch on Voot Select as now this story will have the opportunity to reach a much wider audience and hopefully inspire other young girls and women to follow their dreams and passion in sport, similar to relentless spirit of Indian cricket superstar Mithali Raj.

“I can’t wait to watch this special story once again at home with friends and family and cherish this special moment and I’m really looking forward to seeing the audience reaction to the OTT release of the film,” he had said.

Taapsee will next be seen in Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa which releases on August 18. She is also working with Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki.
