It’s no secret that Marvel movies they have a lot of moving parts behind the scenes that ultimately result in a concept being translated from the page to the big screen. And in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe release, Thor: Love and Thunderdirector Taika Waititi puts in the work, balancing a fun comedic tone with some heavier themes (He even throws in some flashier elements like the heroic and viral space goats and Russell Crowe’s Ridiculous Jupiter.) Through it all, however, Waititi apparently used a misconception involving Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie in the final film, as the actress herself pointed out.
Taika Waititi and Tessa Thompson recently teamed up Vanity Fair’s Notes for a scene series, in which filmmakers and actors take a deep dive into a single scene from a movie and explain its finer points. Check out the moment the Valkyrie actress shows her director a moment that could work better as a blooper:
Now I’ll be honest, I didn’t notice this little mistake when I caught the fun sensational movie that is Thor: Love and Thunder, but Tessa Thompson sure did. As she revealed to Taika Waititi, she dropped a clip of her performance in which she was supposed to be reacting to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor waking up from Shared Vision with the Asgardian children. In the brief moment, Valkyrie seems to react in surprise to something for no reason.
The New Zealand-born director laughed sheepishly at the revelation, admitting he had never noticed. Tessa Thompson also laughed, saying she doesn’t “mind it” and thinks it’s “kind of funny”. While he said it “doesn’t make any sense, he ‘loves it.’ Also in Thompson’s words:
To be perfectly honest, this little montage is pretty funny overall. Next time you catch Thor: Love and Thunder, you can see the short moment and if you go with friends or family, check and see if they can spot it. It’s true that filmmakers definitely want to shoot for a clean and cohesive edit with their films, but little things like this can happen from time to time. Although I’m sure that Creed The actress will be humoring her director about this little blemish for the foreseeable future.
Thor: Love and Thunder has been absolutely killing it at the box office since Chris Hemsworth’s latest No. 1 box office hit in its debut last weekend. The film has already grossed $415 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo and is predicted to win the weekend again as Where The Crawdads Sing and Paws of Fury hit theaters.
