The Last Of Us, Wakanda Forever Reach Milestones on Nielsen Streaming – Deadline

by Stewart Cole

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made quite the entry on Disney+, debuting on Nielsen’s US streaming charts with 2.3 billion minutes watched for the week of January 30-February 5.

The film, which launched on the streaming service on February 1 after its theatrical release in November, was the No. 1 streamer during that week and also became the third most-streamed movie in a week as measured by 2020. Get over it Wonder Woman 1984 to the point, but it’s still behind Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Hocus Pocus 2.

Wakanda Forever dethroned Netflix You peoplewhich dropped to No. 2 on the list with 1.6 billion minutes watched. New Amsterdamstreaming on both Netflix and Peacock, delivered 1.3 billion minutes and stayed at No. 3.

HBO’s The last of us hit a milestone this week, marking its first billion-minute week since its debut in January. With five episodes available, the post-apocalyptic series jumped 36% from last time to 1.2 billion minutes and ranked fourth overall. Nielsen streaming metrics are for viewing on HBO Max only, so these numbers do not reflect any viewership on HBO’s linear channel (HBO has not released updated viewership numbers for the series since episode 4).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Nielsen claims that the audience profile for The last of us is almost identical to The Walking Deadskewed younger and more masculine.

The last program to reach billions of minutes for the week was Minions: The Rise of Gru. The film had approximately 1.2 billion minutes watched in its first week on Netflix.

Ginny & Georgia still made the list, albeit at No. 7 — down from second place the previous week. The Netflix series had about 900 million minutes watched. In terms of original streaming, the series was No. 1.

But interestingly enough, Peacock’s Poker face seems to give Ginny & Georgia a run for its money. The Rian Johnson series came in second among streaming originals for the week with 641 million minutes watched across five episodes. Considering that Ginny & Georgia has 20 episodes available, Poker face surpassed it from the point of view of the average public.

The usual licensed staples were also in the Top 10 streaming programs: The Walking Dead, Cocomelon, Grey’s Anatomy and NCIS.
