“The Mandalorian & Grogu” is a new “Star Wars” movie directed by Jon Favreau

The Mandalorian is hitting the big screen in the not-too-distant future. Pedro Pascal's bounty hunter with a heart of gold is leaving Disney+ and bringing Baby Yoda — aka Grogu — along for the ride.

The new movie, leading the way Star Wars growth plate, titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. Disney and Lucasfilm must be worried that audiences won't know what it's about unless the characters are in the title, sort of like Darth Vader fights back and The Return Of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia.

Outrage aside, I'm excited to see that Jon Favreau is directing. Favreau brought Mando and Baby Yoda to life in the series and has a proven track record as a skilled director with films such as Iron Man and The Jungle Book and plenty of TV credits to his name.

I'm also hoping that the film will put its title characters back at the center of the story after the show's final (massively disappointing) season relegated them to the sidelines in favor of a more drag-focused plot The Mandalorian in the “Philoni verse” rather than telling his own story.

I was little excited for Dave Filoni's upcoming Star Wars movie, simply because its third season The Mandalorian it was so frustrating, and Ahsoka-which was basically a new season of Star Wars: Rebels-left a lot to be desired. Speaking of which, Disney also announced today that a second season of this series is also in the works (though sadly not with actor Ray Stevenson).

I am even less optimistic for a new Rey movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a director who has exactly zero experience with Star Wars or something even remotely.

From the press release:

“I loved telling stories in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are on Star Wars two new and beloved characters and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

I want to think all these projects will be great, and I'm really looking forward to a Mando/Grogu adventure movie, but Star Wars it's just such a mess right now. I'm confused about Lucasfilm and Disney's vision for the franchise at this point. Where is it headed? Director James Mangold is also directing a film, though it's apparently set in a much earlier timeline, when the Force has just been discovered.

That means we've got a little offshoot of the sequels, a Filoni-verse climax movie, something to do with Mando and Baby Yoda, all in a kind of crazy grab of projects that are only loosely connected. Very little comes out of Disney's Star Wars makes me optimistic at this point, which irks me.

The blog post didn't mention it Star Wars project I'm most excited about: Andor Season 2. This was a true masterpiece, and by far the best thing since the original trilogy. More like this, please! This is the way!
