One of India’s popular production houses, Rajshri Productions is known for bringing classic family drama films to Bollywood. Over the years, Rajshri Productions has given blockbusters like Nadiya Ke Paar, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Vivaah and many more. The production house recently completed 75 years in Bollywood and on the occasion, Rajshri Productions released its 60th film, Uunchai, which opened worldwide and received positive response.

Uunchai: Cast and Crew

Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, Uunchai is jointly produced by Rajshri Productions, Boundless Media and Mahaveer Jain Films. The film was announced in October 2021 and immediately grabbed attention as fans eagerly awaited a classic from the renowned production house.

Uunchai boasts of a stellar cast that includes renowned names like Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, Neena Gupta, Sarika, Parineeti Chopra and others. The posters of each of the cast members were unveiled by their near and dear ones, which was appreciated by the audience.

The story of the film is by Sunil Gandhi and the script of the film is penned by Abhishek Dixit. Manoj Khatoi has done the cinematography of the film while Shweta Matthew has done the editing. Ace composer Amit Trivedi has given the songs of the film and George Joseph has given the music. The lyrics are penned by the eminent Irshad Kamil.

Uunchai OTT version details

Uunchai was released in limited screens worldwide. The film released in theaters on November 11, 2022. Reports suggest that the digital rights of the film have also been acquired by an OTT giant.

Fans can soon watch Uunchai on Zee5. An announcement regarding the OTT release dates is awaited.

Uunchai Story and Trailer

Uunchai marks director Sooraj Barjatya’s comeback after his 2015 film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Just like all the other films of Rajshri Productions, Uunchai is also about family, friends and relationship love, however, this film is remarkably different from others as it sheds light on the theme of friendship between senior citizens.

A group of four friends love their bond and have always been separate from each other, but an incident brings them together again. A friend has a wish to reach the summit of Everest Base Camp and to fulfill his last wish, his three best friends, despite their age, do it for him. They seek the help of an expert and mentor to guide them through the preparations and journey. Little did they know that a simple journey will take them on an emotional and spiritual journey that will bring them closer, help them face limitations and also help them discover the meaning of freedom.

Uunchai: Filming

The film was announced in September 2021 by Rajshri films and the eminent cast of veterans has been roped in to play the best friends. Actress Sarika is also returning to cinema after the 2016 film Baar Baar Dekho and Nafisa Ali opposite Amitabh Bachchan. Filming began on October 21, 2022 and was shot at several landmark locations in Lukla and Kathmandu, Nepal, and in Indian locations such as Kargil, Delhi, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh.

Uunchai: Reviews

Uunchai received a positive response from critics and audiences. Despite a limited screen release, fans rushed to theaters to watch this film. Critics said the film is simple yet emotional and a fun watch for families. Performances by popular fraternity names have also struck a chord with the audience. Aspects of the direction and story have also resonated with audiences, as users have taken to social media to report that the emotions on display are relatable and touching.
