New map reveals filming locations (Image: Virgin Media) A NEW interactive map has revealed where some of the UK's best-loved films of all time were filmed – and one was filmed right here in south Essex. Virgin Media created the new interactive “Movie Mapper” which shows where some of the most famous Blockbuster movies have been shot across the country. The map shows South end he appears briefly in Goldfinger, still regarded by many fans as the quintessential Bond film. It was also the last of the films to feature Bond creator, writer Ian Fleming. Some of the scenes for the 1964 blockbuster – where Sir Sean Connery played James Bond for the third time – were filmed in the original terminal building at Southend Airport. In one scene viewers spy master villain Goldfinger's Rolls Royce being loaded onto a British United Air Ferries Karvair, right in front of his flight to Geneva. Southend Airport has become a popular filming location over the years, with previously unseen photos revealing its role in the 2006 British biographical drama The Queen – which depicts the events following Princess Diana's death in 1997. The airfield was transformed into RAF Northolt in October 2005 for the film with an aircraft disguised as the RAF transport aircraft that flew Princess Diana's coffin back to the UK from Paris after her tragic death. Smaller productions such as Aldi's Christmas advert, a British Airways advert and a Mr Beast YouTube challenge video were all filmed at the airport last year. The town itself has attracted production crews in recent years, with the latest installment of the Rise of the Footsoldier film series filmed at key seaside businesses such as Gold Coast Chinese Restaurant and Adventure Island – with theme park boss Philip Miller he even stars in the action film.
