2024 marks the 8th year since the last Star Trek feature film in 2016 Star Trek Beyond. Paramount has made several attempts to follow up on this film with the latest news being that they are actually developing two new Trek films. Now one of the stars of the recent films, Zoe Saldana, is weighing in on all the latest Trek reporting.
Saldana is speaking Star Trek 4
While promoting the Paramount+ series Special Ops: LionessZoe Saldana spoke comicbook.com on the latest Star Trek news. The actress said she's keeping up with reports that Paramount plans to move forward with a sequel Star Trek Beyond while also doing an “origin story” movie that takes place before the 2009 Star Trek movie. Saldana said of the news…
“I know. I mean I heard what you heard in the trades. I just heard that they're getting ready to do a new one with a newer genre, to take it over. Like it was out of order,” Saldana admitted. “I don't know if it's from before or after, but that they're really hoping to grab all of us veterans and bring us back for one last go-round. Look, I know it's a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But working with JJ Abrams and for JJ Abrams on Bad Robot has always been a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So if I do it one last time, I would be so grateful.”
The latest news about Star Trek 4 follow up on Beyond was that Paramount planned it to be the last film for the Kelvin cast. No director has been announced since Matt Shakman left the project in 2022. Toby Haynes has been tapped to helm the separate “origin story” film that “expands the Star Trek universe.”
These potential feature film projects are being developed as Paramount+ moves forward with its first Star Trek movie made for streaming, with Star Trek: Episode 31 will begin filming this week in Toronto. There's also another possible mystery film project involving the character of Jean-Luc Picard that Patrick Stewart said was being written late last year.
As always, we'll do our best to keep up with all the latest Star Trek movie news.
