An APPEAL has been set up to find actors for a new film set in the northeastern part of the 1980s.
The part of 15-year-old Lois, starring in the movie titled Blue Jean, is described as compatible with her sexuality.
“Growing up in Newcastle in the eighties without a mother figure, her life lacks positive female role models,” says a character profile.
“Introverted with a natural talent, she is athletic and experienced in hiding her true self from the world.”
People aged 20-45 are also being sought to play a number of roles that identify women.
Casting company Shaheen Baig Casting said no acting experience is required and successful candidates will be paid.
They work with BBC Films and Kleio Films Ltd on the feature film Blue Jean, set in Northeast America in 1988.
The film’s description says: “It’s 1988 and the Thatcher government has just passed a law banning the promotion of homosexuality by schools and local authorities.
“Therefore, PE teachers were primary targets for homophobic categories.
“Our film follows Jean, who is forced to live a double life, when her sexuality comes to the surface when she is confronted by one of her schoolgirls in a lesbian bar.”
Interested candidates should send an email to [email protected]. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 4 January.
