Last year, Ryan Reynolds announced that he had finished filming Lively with Will Ferrell, and it looks like the holiday movie is finally on its way. Lively will be “a musical based on Charles Dickens” Christmas carols,” and Reynolds shared a first look at the film this past holiday season. Today, Deadline reported that Apple Original Films will debut in theaters on November 11 and on Apple TV+ on November 18.
Lively written and directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, who worked with Ferrell on dad’s house movie theater. Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez, Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and Mosaic are producing the holiday flick. Reynolds will play an Ebenezer Scrooge-like character, targeting various ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Ferrell is set to play the Ghost of Christmas Present, and Octavia Spencer is set to play Reynolds’ “benevolent partner.” Other cast members include Patrick Page, Sunita Mani, Loren Woods, Joe Tippett, Marlow Barkley and Jen Tullok. The soundtrack will feature new songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen).

When Reynolds first announced that he had wrapped filming Lively, revealed that he was taking a break from movies. Now, it looks like he’s back to work Fantastic friends, which went into production last month. In 2019, it was announced that Reynolds and John Krasinski would be teaming up for the upcoming comedy. Krasinski wrote the screenplay for the film and is also set to direct. In addition to the two stars, the film will also feature Steve Carrell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw and Louis Gossett Jr.
Check out what Reynolds originally wrote on Instagram after he finished it Lively:
“That’s a wrap for me Lively. I’m not sure I would have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago. Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made many dreams come true. And this is my second film with the wonderful @octaviaspencer… Perfect timing for a little weekend away from filmmaking. I will miss every second of working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists. These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I have been fortunate to work with people who are equal to both,” Reynolds wrote.
Lively hits theaters November 11 and Apple TV+ November 18.
